Points to note regarding the cleaning and installation of NSK bearings

When cleaning large quantities of imported bearings, first pour hot engine oil at a temperature of 90–100 °C over them to melt the sealing grease. At the same time, use a seamless, lint-free tool to scrape out all the old grease. Continue pouring hot oil over them for a few minutes, then rinse off the engine oil with kerosene, followed by a final wash with petrol. Once thoroughly cleaned, wear thin plastic gloves and place the imported bearings on a clean cloth or paper on the workbench to air-dry.

Before installing the imported bearings, use appropriate measuring tools to inspect the shaft, housing bore and related components for machining quality in accordance with the technical requirements specified in the design drawings, such as dimensional accuracy, geometric accuracy and surface roughness.

Immediately prior to installation, open the packaging of the imported bearing and immerse it in the aforementioned liquid (such as petrol), rotating it gently by hand to ensure that the packaging oil on the cage, rolling elements and raceway surfaces is thoroughly cleaned off. The mounting surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned with a solution of clean petrol, kerosene, toluene or xylene, then wiped dry with a clean cloth before applying a thin layer of lubricating oil; this will facilitate the installation process.

Please note that sealed bearings must not be cleaned using this method; the interior of the seal must remain in its original condition and must not be cleaned. If the mounting surfaces of the shaft and bearing housing bore are found to have dents, burrs, rust spots or solid particles (such as grinding debris, sand grains and soil), this will not only make bearing installation difficult and result in incorrect positioning, but solid particles falling into the NSK bearing will also act as abrasives. When the bearing rotates, this will cause wear or scratches on the bearing’s working surface. Therefore, a thorough inspection must be carried out prior to installation; if any of the aforementioned defects are found, they must be rectified. For example, use an oil file to remove burrs, protrusions, dents and rust spots, and polish the surface with fine-grit sandpaper; or clean away solid particles and contaminants.
